On Monday Dec. 16, the 2019 municipal election cycle in Putnam County could finally, perhaps, come to a close.

That is the date set for the appointed commission to meet and recount the ballots in the Cloverdale clerk-treasurer race between incumbent Cheryl Galloway and challenger Vanessa Carr.

Galloway, a Republican, won the original count by two votes over the independent Carr, 143-141.

Carr filed suit for a recount in Putnam Circuit Court on Nov. 19 and Judge Matthew Headley appointed the three-person commission to conduct the recount.

It includes Putnam County Deputy Clerk Heather Robinson, Barb Jay and Vivian Whitaker.

Robinson was appointed as the person who can run the voting and tabulation equipment, while Jay is a Republican from the affected district and Whitaker is a Democrat from the district.

Once the recount is completed, the Putnam County Clerk’s Office must file a certificate of recount, with any corrected vote totals noted.

The deadline to complete the recount is Friday, Dec. 20.

After the recount certificate is filed, the court enters its final order discharging the recount commission. A 30-day period to appeal the recount commission’s certificate begins when the trial court issues this order.

The next term for the Cloverdale clerk-treasurer begins on Wednesday, Jan. 1.

Its too bad that the BG doesn't have an intrepid reporter (I miss Michael Zinney) who will actually do some digging and reporting.

The shenanigans by Judge Headley are just overlooked and accepted without question by the local paper. If you can find the original story, I posted a very long and detailed comment that should get people - if not the local paper - asking questions.

The commission reported in this story is not the original commission set, but due to political influence and questionable decisions made by Judge Headley this is the "re-commissioned" commission.
