County Jail

One person was booked in the Putnam County Jail on Tuesday morning.

• At 12:03 a.m. Danny A. Dowty, 61, Roachdale, was lodged at the jail for intimidation, domestic battery and disorderly conduct.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two property-damage crashes.

• At 6:05 a.m. on Tuesday, Deputy Brian Helmer observed a two-vehicle crash while responding to another accident at U.S. 40 and County Road 620 West.

Helmer said he saw a sport utility vehicle, later identified as a 2003 Honda Element driven by Mark A. Conrad, 57, Brazil, moving in the median. Helmer said Conrad’s vehicle pulled into the eastbound lanes, failing to yield right-of-way to eastbound traffic.

Conrad’s vehicle was then T-boned by a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Mark W. Butler, 64, Harmony. Conrad’s vehicle spun multiple times and came to rest in the eastbound driving lane. Butler’s truck came to rest in the turnaround of the median.

Conrad complained of leg pain and was checked out by Operation Life, signing a statement of release. Butler said he was not injured.

Conrad said he originally lost control and spun into the median. He was initially stuck, but got the vehicle rocking and was able to get some traction and enter the roadway. However, he was then hit by Butler’s truck.

Butler said he was eastbound when Conrad pulled into his path of travel and could not get stopped because of surface conditions.

Both vehicles were towed. Helmer estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 9:58 a.m. on Monday, Brennon S. Weathers, 35, Lafayette, was westbound on County Road 1000 North attempting to make a left-hand turn onto County Road 350 West in a 2011 Peterbilt 384 pulling a grain trailer.

Deputy Josh Boller explained that 350 North is a long hill crest that intersects with 1000 North.

Weathers said that while he was making a wide left turn to clear the left side ditch, the brakes locked up on the snow and ice, leading to the trailer sliding into the ditch and overturning.

The semi tractor stayed upright.

The accident occurred at very slow speeds, causing extensive damage to the truck and trailer. Both were towed.

Boller estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.
