Fillmore woman arrest for DUI at four times the legal limit

Wednesday, December 18, 2019

TERRE HAUTE – A 59-year-old Putnam County woman was arrested on alcohol-related charges Wednesday afternoon following a one-vehicle accident in Vigo County.

Regina R. Ames, Fillmore, reportedly had a blood-alcohol content of more than four times the legal limit when the accident occurred about 1:15 p.m.

Master Trooper Rich Reynolds from the Putnamville State Police Post, responded to the single-vehicle accident at the State Road 641 bypass and McDaniel Road.

The preliminary crash investigation indicated Ames, driving a 2013 GMC, over-steered, veering off the roadway onto the berm and striking a guardrail. She continued traveling south for another 175 feet until her vehicle became disabled.

Further investigation determined that Ames displayed signs of impairment and that she had a blood-alcohol content of .36 percent (the legal limit in Indiana is .08 percent).

Ames sustained minor injuries in the accident and was transported to Regional Hospital for medical care.

Once cleared medically, Ames was arrested and taken to the Vigo County Jail where she is currently being held on bond on charges of:

• Operating a vehicle with a BAC .15 or more, a Class A misdemeanor.

• Operating a vehicle while intoxicated endangering a person, a Class C misdemeanor.

  • Poor lady looks like shes been crying. I think she shouldn't of been arrested because shes kinda cute. She must be going through a hard time. She needs a hug. Everyone leave her alone. We've all had hard times. The banner shouldn't make storys about people just cut they screwed up. I bet the person reporting this must be perfect. If I was a fake news reporter I'd go around hurting on people too. Just like when they put molesters in the paper. I wonder how the victims feel when they see these criminals in paper just so the sick reporters can get a good reputation for ruining people's lives. I dont know why I even pay for this paper.

  • Peterpan44- I also feel this ladies photo and story should not have been printed. I'm sure the courts can deal and it will be a matter of public record on MyCase Indiana.

  • Ok. Blame the Banner for everything. I just read this same article in the Terre Haute paper where she was arrested. It is usually customary to send things like this to the local town newspaper. No she is not the first to get her photo and story in the paper. She should not have been drinking and driving in the first place. If your family had been involved in a fatal accident with this lady due to her alcohol content you would not be making the above comments.

  • I’m in the middle here. I have lost a child to a drunk driver. Yesterday was his birthday and I had to celebrate his belebrate it at the cemetery. No way any parent should have to go thru this. Because of a careless, thoughtless person. I do not know Mrs. Ames personally but do know the family (even if I didn’t know them) I would recommend to her family and to the courts that she get sent to rehab and she get sent to mandated counseling. And is required to talk with a parent that has lost a child or someone that has lost a loved one to a drunk driver. Period! No questions asked! If she doesn’t do it then she’s in contempt n they do with her whatever they deem necessary. Prayers to you Mrs. Ames. I hope you get the help you need n if you ever want to talk you may reach out to me anytime! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼💙💙💙

  • I'll never forget how my mother cried when a drunk driver killed my grandfather.

I have no sympathy for drunk drivers.(Or distracted drivers for that matter.)

At 4 times the legal limit, she was an immediate threat to society and deserves every bit of shame and ridicule given.

Perhaps it will be enough that she won't do it again.

To those who have lost loved ones due to drunk/drugged (or even distracted) drivers, you have my deepest sympathies.
