Greencastle woman, 19, facing six charges after Sunday crash
A 19-year-old Greencastle woman might be spending the Christmas holiday in jail after her arrest Sunday morning on six charges.
Kaiglynn Harvey was arrested at 6:40 a.m. Sunday by Greencastle City Police Officer Elsiana Crosby following a one-vehicle accident in the 900 block of South Jackson Street.
Booked into the Putnam County Jail at 8:35 a.m. Sunday, Harvey is facing preliminary charges of:
• Disorderly conduct.
• Operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
• Reckless driving.
• Domestic battery.
• Being a minor in consumption of alcohol.
• Criminal recklessness with a vehicle.
According to Crosby’s report, Harvey refused to let her male passenger drive and then reportedly floored the accelerator, causing the vehicle to reach speeds in excess of 80 mph.
The vehicle ultimately struck a red Dodge and crashed into a fence.
The male passenger tried to stop the speeding vehicle by first putting the transmission into park and then by puling the emergency brake.
For his trouble, the passenger reportedly was repeatedly struck by Harvey, who later tried to run the man over with the vehicle, authorities said. The passenger was later taken to Putnam County Hospital.
Officer Crosby was assisted at the scene by DePauw University Police.
