City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to three recent dispatches:

• At 4:54 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a mutual assist call for a structure fire at 7268 W. CR 300 North. Units arrived on the scene at 5:27 and assisted the Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Department with extinguishing the fire, as well as with overhaul. GFD went back into service at 10:15 a.m.

• At 10:48 p.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire at 704 Highwood Ave. Units arrived at 10:51 to find that the majority of the fire had already been extinguished. The rest was put out with a fire extinguisher. Only the dining room and its contents were destroyed, and the cause of the fire was determined as being from a candle that was knocked over. GFD went back into service at 11:35 p.m.

• At 11:48 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 106 S. Spring St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:49 and determined the alarm was due to smoking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 11:56 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed seven medical assists.
