City Police

One recent shoplifting incident was investigated by Greencastle City Police.

• At 2:09 p.m. Thursday, Officer Brad Hiatt was called to the Walmart store on Indianapolis Road for an alleged theft.

Justin Rexing, 33, Lafayette, was arrested for theft and unlawful possession of a syringe. He was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

Authorities allege Rexing attempted to steal packs of baseball cards and bath towels, totaling $244.99.

He tried to leave the store with the items concealed on his person, police said.

The theft report notes that he reportedly put the individual packs of cards in his pockets as he went through multiple areas of the store, putting other things in his cart.

Indiana State Police

State troopers from the Putnamville Post made two local arrests following Thursday traffic stops.

• Trooper Colton Maynor stopped a Brazil man at County Road 1000 South and Parkers Place on Thursday evening for committing a traffic violation.

Maynor noted that the man, 56-year-old Norman J. Hunt III, showed signs of impairment. Hunt refused to submit to a certified chemical test.

At 10:16 p.m., he was booked in the Putnam County Jail on the charge of driving while intoxicated-refusal.

• Earlier in the afternoon, Trooper James Crisp stopped a Fillmore man at Avenue D and 10th Street in Greencastle for committing a traffic violation.

The driver, 53-year-old Paul Alleyn, failed a field test but refused to submit to a certified chemical test.

Alleyn was booked in the jail at 4:42 p.m. for driving while intoxicated-refusal.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent property-damage crash.

• At 5:46 p.m. on Wednesday, Christopher A. Childers, 25, Bainbridge, was westbound on State Road 236 in a 2008 Dodge Ram.

At County Road 375 West, a deer came into the road and Childers could not avoid contact.

Deputy Randy Patrick estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.
