Elizabeth 'Betty Jane' Weddle

Elizabeth “Betty Jane” Weddle, 86, of Brazil, passed away at Putnam County Hospital, on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020 following a brief illness.

She was born on April 2, 1933, in Ridgefarm, Ill., the daughter of Carl E. and Daisy Irene (Deeter) Hugg.

She attended Cory High School where she had been a cheerleader.

Betty Jane married Walter “Ted” Weddle on Nov. 23, 1949. He passed away July 8, 2016.

She served as the first meter maid in Clay County and worked at Ann Page Food in Terre Haute for nearly 17 years.

Betty Jane was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Ladies Auxiliary. She was a former member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association as well as various other civic organizations.

She enjoyed spending time with family, vacationing to Florida, having parties and cookouts and loved to be around others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Daisy Hugg; her husband, Walter Ted Weddle; a grandson, Ronald Jo Alexander, and a brother, Samuel “Lester” Hugg.

Survivors include her four children, Ray Kelly Weddle and wife Penny of Florida, Teddi Beard and husband Dan of Greencastle, Jay Weddle and wife Kate of Brazil, and Beth Weddle (Scotty) of St. Louis; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Visitation will be at French Funeral Home, Brazil, on Saturday, Jan. 11 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Services will be at the funeral home, on Saturday, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Bridgewater officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery.
