Congressman Jim Baird files candidacy for re-election

Thursday, January 9, 2020

Congressman Jim Baird (R-Greencastle) Thursday announced his candidacy for re-election to Indiana’s 4th Congressional District.

“Representing Hoosiers in the 4th Congressional District is an honor and privilege,” Baird said. “During my first year in office I have worked alongside our farmers, veterans, educators and many others to advance policies that strengthen our economy and lead toward a bright future for the next generation. While Democrats put forth policies rooted in socialism, I am determined to stand against those ideas our country has fought against since our independence.

“The crucial juncture of our nation calls for leaders of principle and conviction,” Baird added. “My love for our country runs deep, and I am prepared to keep standing for Hoosiers and our great country.”

Congressman Baird was first elected to Congress in 2018 and serves on the Agriculture Committee and the Science, Space and Technology Committee.

Before being elected to Congress, he served in the Indiana General Assembly.

Baird is a decorated Vietnam veteran where he was awarded a Bronze Star with a V device and two Purple Hearts with an Oak Leaf Cluster.

He holds degrees from Purdue University and a PhD from the University of Kentucky.

Baird resides in Greencastle with his wife Danise.

The 4th Congressional District comprises all or portions of 16 counties in west-central Indiana, including all of Putnam County.

I hope someone challenges him in the Primary.

    And in the General.

And sends him back to Greencastle.

This guy doesn't care about you or the country... he cares about himself, his party, and his donors.

    HE CO-SPONSORED AN AMNESTY BILL!!!

    WITHIN THE LAST FEW MONTHS!!!

(He is part of the cheap labor Chamber of Commerce cabal.)

  • I respect your perspective/ experience with Mr. Baird. Mine has been quite different.

I have been in his office in DC to lobby for concerns in my industry. I found him engaged, asking good questions, made sure to have the proper staff member in the meeting, and reach back out to me if needed. I haven't found that the case in some of my other meetings on the hill.

His support did not help himself, his party, or his donors. He didn't gain from supporting our concerns except for the same benefits all consumers would get.

No one is perfect and it is very easy to take the negative and make that our narrative. Sadly, that eliminates the different layers to issues plus ALL people as no one person is perfect or going to find agreement with all the other people.

I prefer to weigh the scale and I find it in favor of the positive over the negative as it relates to Mr Baird.

I am glad he is running for re-election and hopes he will continue to be the representative for his district.

  • What an ineffective, partisan politician Jim Baird has been in Congress. No support for efforts to help students, the LGBTQ+ community, or the working class folks. He needs to retire and contemplate the harm he has caused families in Putnam County.

Is that Kim Fidler? Democrat and inner Party member Kim Fidler calling someone "partisan"?

    Bwa-ha-haaa!!!

You belong right there with Mr. Baird.

Both of you play one side against the other, creating division that compels government to play arbitrator.

Big government wins. Republicans & Democrats win. The people lose.

  • kfidler,

Do you think calling names makes sense? Help with bi partisanship? Show leadership? The same blame you throw at the Congressperson is also reflective in your own party.

Sadly, the amount of hatred coming from your party is not what your party should want to be attached to. In addition, you are validating the new definition of tolearance- I am tolerant of those I agree with.

This is coming from someone who is a common sense middle ground person.

Even when I may disagree, I can respect those who work hard to promote what they believe is best.

I will admit, though, I struggle when they try to advance thru behavior that doesn't support treating others as I want to be treated. I am confident you don't want to be call names.
