A new exhibit which will highlight one of Greencastle’s longstanding businesses will open on Saturday, Jan. 11 at the Putnam County Museum, 1105 N. Jackson St., Greencastle.

“Beyond the Bright Red Counter” is a multi-medium exhibit by Konrad Rula, a photographer and a studio art and communications student at DePauw University.

The exhibit will give one last look at White Cleaners, a family-run business that operated in Putnam County for more than 80 years.

Using sound, sight and motion, the exhibit features actual equipment, artifacts and the original bright red counter to tell the story of the business and the people who worked there.

White Cleaners closed its doors in September of 2018, after remaining in the same building at 309 N. Jackson St. for approximately 73 years.

An opening reception will be held from 4-6 p.m. this Saturday, and is free and open to the community.

The exhibit will run until Friday, Feb. 21.

For more information, persons may call the museum at 653-8419.

  • What's going to happen to this business? The building's exterior need a major overhaul. It's been an eyesore on US 231 for years. Newcomers to Greencastle driving on N. Jackson are not getting a good first impression.

  • Several “eyesores” around town and in that area. That one empty building isn’t the only one not leaving a good first impression. Small town problems.
