BAINBRIDGE — A home on Bainbridge’s west end was destroyed by fire and several animals were lost in a fire Thursday afternoon.

However, no one was home at the time and no firefighters were injured in the blaze.

Firefighters were first dispatched to 411 W. Main St. at 12:40 p.m., with five area fire departments ultimately responding.

Bainbridge Fire Department Lt. Eric Gibson told the Banner Graphic that investigators believe it to have been an accidental electrical fire originating in the master bedroom of the small home.

Three dogs, three cats and some reptiles were killed the blaze.

“We were able to save a snake and a few bearded dragons,” Gibson said.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 4:15 p.m.

Responding departments included Bainbridge, Roachdale, Greencastle, Clinton Township and Bellmore, as well as Putnam County EMS and the Bainbridge Police Department.

“We greatly appreciate all the responding departments and the local police department and Putnam County EMS for their response,” Gibson said. “We appreciate the town’s folks staying at bay at not getting in the way.

“There was no loss of life and the property can be rebuilt.”
