County Jail

Five people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 9:52 p.m. Chris L. Mitchell, 38, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail for theft.

• At 8:59 p.m. Kaley R. Majko, 25, Bainbridge, was booked in on a local warrant and a Marion County warrant.

• At 9:25 a.m. Stephanie J. Bentley, 37, Richmond, was taken into custody for dealing in a Schedule III controlled substance, trafficking with an inmate and possession of a controlled substance.

Tuesday

• At 6:22 p.m. Jonathan J. Alexander, 28, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for possession of methamphetamine and resisting law enforcement.

• At 6:14 p.m. Randy W. Runnells, 54, Fillmore, was booked in for possession of an altered handgun, carrying a handgun without a license, resisting law enforcement and driving with a suspended license.

Indiana State Police

Troopers from the Indiana State Police Putnamville Post made one recent arrest in Putnam County.

• On Wednesday afternoon, Trooper Colton Maynor stopped a Cloverdale woman at U.S. 231 and Lewis Drive for failure to wear a seatbelt.

Further investigation revealed that the driver, 41-year-old Jessica M. Anderson, was in possession of 50 grams of synthetic marijuana.

Anderson was booked in the jail at 3:40 p.m. for possession of synthetic marijuana and driving while intoxicated.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At 6:24 p.m. on Wednesday, Louella B. Burnett, 78, Fillmore, was southbound on County Road 550 East, having just turned off of County Road 300 North, when a deer ran into her 2003 Ford Escape.

The impact damaged only the windshield on the passenger side.

Deputy Robert Soilleux estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 7:38 p.m. on Sunday, Megan R. Friars, 20, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 50 South in a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am.

Friars told Deputy Nate Trissel she missed the 90-degree turn onto County Road 625 East, leaving the roadway, missing a utility pole and hitting a tree.

Trissel said it appeared Friars had applied the brakes too late, measuring skid marks just 90 feet from where the car came to rest.

Trissel issued Friars a warning for speeding.

The car was towed. Trissel estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to two recent dispatches:

• At 4:18 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to the Richard E. Peeler Art Center for a water flow alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:22 and were advised that the alarm had malfunctioned. Maintenance arrived, and GFD went back into service at 4:47 p.m.

• At 4:23 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 1333 Indianapolis Rd. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 4:29 and found that the alarm system had malfunctioned. The alarm was then reset. GFD went back into service at 4:39 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed three medical assists between these dispatches.
