James Harold Poynter, 69, of Richmond, Ind., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, at Reid Health in Richmond with his fiancé Jenny and his beloved dog Molly by his side.

Jimmy was born in the Hazeldell Community, Pulaski County, Somerset, Ky., on Oct. 9, 1950, the son of Elbert Wesley and Era Grace (Burton) Poynter.

In his early years, he helped to support his family on the family farm, after his father’s death, in Greencastle, and was also a farmer in the Danville, Ky., area. Then he went on to find his passion in over the road trucking.

Jimmy was most recently employed by WDS Enterprises of Shepherd, Mich.

He is survived by his son, Shane (Amy) Poynter, as well as, their two children (Eli and Grace), Paint Lick, Ky.; a brother, Timothy (Pam) Poynter; three sisters, Betty (Louis) Ridgway, Carolyn (David) Winslow, and Devonna ( Jacob) Fogle; a sister-in-law, Debra Poynter; and his fiancé, Yu Qin Song (Jenny).

He was proceeded in death by his parents; a twin brother, John Poynter; a brother, Ray Poynter; and his sister, Arlene Poynter.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Pastor Buck Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Clinton Falls Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to time of services on Tuesday.

We want to express a heartfelt thanks to the nurses on the third floor, and all the therapists at Reid Health for their care and compassion given to Jimmy, Jenny and Molly.

Jimmy was loved and will be missed by his family. Until we can be together again.
