Owens-Williams out of auditor’s race, Sillery in

Tuesday, January 21, 2020

While a second candidate for Putnam County Auditor added her name to the list of filings recently, the first candidate withdrew her name from consideration.

Evelyn Owens-Williams, currently the chief deputy auditor, is no longer seeking the Republican nomination for auditor.

Meanwhile, Tina Sillery, a former deputy auditor, has filed paperwork to seek the GOP nod.

Current Auditor Lorie Hallett will reach her two-term limit at the end of 2020.

The only county-level office with a contested race at this point is for District 3 county commissioner, where Tom Burnett has added his name to an already crowded field for the Republican nomination.

Other Republicans set to appear on the May 5 primary election ballot include incumbent Don Walton, along with Shawn McCammack Sr. and Greg Williams.

Additionally, Putnam Superior Court Judge Denny Bridges will run for the GOP nomination as he seeks a third six-year term in office.

Other county-level races remain unchanged, with District 1 County Commissioner David Berry and County Treasurer Kathy Minnick so far unopposed in their respective bids for another four-year term.

County-level races with no candidates thus far are for Putnam County coroner, where incumbent Dave Brown plans to retire, and the three at-large seats on the Putnam County Council. The incumbents in those seats are Gene Beck, Phil Gick and Larry Parker.

No Democrats had filed for any county-level offices as of Tuesday.

Candidate packets for any Republic or Democrat seeking one of these positions are available at the Voter Registration Office on the second floor of the Putnam County Courthouse.

The deadline to file to appear on the primary ballot is noon on Friday, Feb. 7.
