ISP Master Trooper Ryan Winters promoted to detective

PUTNAMVILLE — An Indiana State Trooper assigned to patrol Putnam County has been promoted to the rank of detective.

Master Trooper Ryan Winters has now attained the rank of trooper detective, State Police Supt. Doug Carter announced Thursday.

Winters’ responsibilities will include conducting criminal investigations and managing, investigating and processing crime scenes. He will also be interviewing victims, witnesses and informants. Winters will also be responsible for informing affected commanders and other personnel of crime investigations and related activity.

A native of Sullivan, Winters is a 1997 graduate of Sullivan High School. He attended Indiana State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminology and two associate’s degrees in sociology and psychology.

Winters was a member of the 63rd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy in 2003 and was assigned to the Lafayette Post upon graduation. Throughout his career he has also worked in the drug enforcement section and has had two narcotics canines assigned to him.

“We are very excited to have Det. Winters become part of our investigative team here at the Putnamville Post. He will be an asset,” First Sgt. Jason Fajit, commander of criminal investigations at the Putnamville Post, said. “Winters’ primary county of assignment will be Putnam County, where he will become part of the community he serves.”

Winters resides in Putnam County.

On Thursday, the Putnamville Post also announced a pair of other promitions.

Senior Trooper Brent Robinson, who primarily serves Sullivan County, has been promoted to sergeant.

Meanwhile, Senior Trooper Mike Taylor was reassigned to the Special Operations Division, Aviation Section, to serve as a tactical flight officer.

  • What a big mistake. This man beat the shiz out of my wife without cause and had me thrown in jail for protecting her. He has little man syndrome and hides behind the badge to carry out his crimes.
