Lloyd Byron Fortune, 78, of Greencastle, passed away on Friday, Jan. 24, 2020 surrounded by his family.

He was born Sept. 28, 1941 in Orange, Calif., the son of Lambert B. and Eula Mae (Howerton) Fortune.

He was a graduate of Huntington Beach High School, Huntington Beach, Calif. He received his associate’s degree in public works form Santa Ana College, Calif., and his ministerial diploma from Life Bible College in San Dimas, Calif.

Lloyd was a veteran, having served in the United States Air Force.

He retired from the City of Costa Mesa, Calif., and later retired from the Foursquare Gospel Church, where he served as minister for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Joy A. (Slagle) Fortune; daughters Sabra (Bill) Scott, Cindy Chapman, Terri Fortune, Diane (Stephen) Sendmeyer, Dawn (Mike) Lindsay, Debbie (Todd) Sabin and Darla (Matthew) Taylor; sisters Charlotte Hayden, Jo Clark, Anne Bordenkircher and Lyle (Dewey) Richardson; his aunt who raised him, Pauline Fortune; brother-in-law Gerry Swofford; 18 grandchildren, Christina Maughan, William Scott, Samantha Osterberg, Kelci Pickering, Michael, Jeremy, Brandon and Tyler Lindsay, Mari Williams, Justin, Austin, Ashley, Nicholas, Matthew and Damien Sabin, and Jason, Derek, and Nathan Taylor; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Delores Swofford.

A celebration of life service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26 at New Hope Fellowship, 2450 N. U.S. 231 Greencastle, with military honors.
