County Jail

Four people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Sunday

• At 10:50 p.m. Dustin J. Wheeler, 38, Poland, was lodged at the jail on an out-of-county warrant.

• At 1:05 a.m. Christopher T. Smith, 27, Greencastle, was taken into custody for battery, criminal mischief, resisting law enforcement, disorderly conduct, intimidation and for petition to revoke probation.

• At 12:37 a.m. Jessica M. Ottinger, 25, Noblesville, was housed at the jail for possession of methamphetamine and unlawful possession of a syringe.

Friday

• At 6:26 p.m. Ryan D. Martin, 31, Terre Haute, was booked in for driving with a suspended license.

City Police

Four recent citations were issued by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 5:15 p.m. Sunday, Elizabeth Sage, 30, Greencastle, was cited by Reserve Officer Kenny Shepherd.

Stopped on Fillmore Road, Sage was ticketed for having no valid driver’s license when required.

• At 10:44 a.m. Sunday, Kathryn Hanson, 38, Danville, was cited by Capt. Chris Jones.

Stopped on Fifth Street near Avenue B, Hanson was cited for driving with a suspended license with a prior offense.

• At 10:17 a.m. Saturday, Lauren Fischer, 21 Center Point, was cited by Officer Brad Hiatt.

Stopped on Veterans Memorial Highway near Putnamville Street, Fischer was ticketed for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

• At 10:17 a.m. Saturday, Reuben Edwards, 20 Roachdale, was cited by Officer Hiatt.

Stopped on East Washington Street, Edwards was ticketed for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated four recent property-damage crashes.

• At 8:01 a.m. on Monday, Jerry F. Vibbert, 36, Indianapolis, was westbound on State Road 240 near County Road 525 East in a 2016 Nissan NV2 van registered to K and R Courier, Indianapolis.

Vibbert passed another vehicle and as he got back into his lane, he ran off the north side of the road and lost control. The van then crossed the center line and ran off the south side of the road, where it rolled onto its top.

Vibbert was taken from the scene with the complaint of neck pain.

Deputy Scott Ducker estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000. The vehicle was towed.

• At 5:59 p.m. on Saturday, Madison J. Trout, 22, Greencastle, was eastbound on U.S. 36 near County Road 350 East in a 2009 Toyota Corolla.

Deputy Randy Patrick reported that Trout came upon an icy stretch of road and lost control, hitting a guardrail on the south side of the road. The guardrail was significantly damaged and the vehicle had to be towed.

Trout was not injured in the crash.

Patrick estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 2:18 p.m. on Saturday, John C. Sears, 62, Greencastle, was northbound on a sharp turn of County Road 300 East, just north of County Road 400 South, in a 2006 Toyota Prius. Tyler J. Bryan, 26, Brazil, was southbound in the same curve in a 2005 GMC Sierra pulling a utility trailer.

Deputy Brian Helmer reported conditions were slick and wet, with an air temperature of 33 degrees. Sears lost control in these conditions, hitting Bryan’s trailer, then continuing across the southbound lane, going into the cornfield on the west side of the road, hitting a telephone box and fence.

Bryan’s truck was not damaged but the trailer was destroyed.

Neither driver was injured.

Both vehicles were towed, Sears’ due to damage and Bryan’s due to lack of insurance.

Deputy Helmer estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 3:32 a.m. on Friday, Bradley J. Branneman, 52, Cloverdale, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2003 Cadillac Catera.

Branneman told Deputy Robert Soilleux that one second he was southbound on the road and the next he was crashed into the guardrail, saying he did not remember what happened.

Furthermore, Soilleux noted that Branneman complained of pain and trouble breathing as well as being unsteady on his feet. He was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The passenger side of the car was damaged, as well as minimal damage to the guardrail.

The car was towed. Soilleux estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to eight recent dispatches:

• At 10:04 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Delta Tau Delta for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 10:06 and determined the alarm was due to smoking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 10:13 p.m.

• At 9:14 a.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to 1 E. Liberty St. for a carbon monoxide alarm. Firefighters arrived at about 9:15 and monitored the property, but did not detect on carbon monoxide. GFD went back into service at 9:22 a.m.

• At 3:21 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Beta Theta Pi for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:24 and determined the alarm was due to smoking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 3:34 p.m.

• At 7:03 a.m. on Saturday, GFD responded to a fire at 188 Gettysburg Dr. in Coatesville. Units arrived on the scene at 7:32 and assisted the Floyd Township Volunteer Fire Department with extinguishing the fire, as well as overhaul. GFD was released from the scene at 12:02 p.m.

• At 12:21 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Delta Upsilon for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:26 but could not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD left at 12:41 a.m.

• At 12:57 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:02 a.m. but could not determine a cause for the alarm. The alarm was reset. GFD left at 1:14 a.m.

• At 4:22 a.m. on Monday, GFD responded to a fire at 317 N. Arlington St. Units arrived on the scene at 4:28 and contained the smoke and fire to the attic. GFD went back into service at 5:25 a.m.

• At 11:34 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched again to 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 11:36 and determined the alarm was caused by a candle. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 11:42 a.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed 11 medical assists.
