David Jerry Winkler

David Jerry Winkler, 80, of Reelsville, passed away on Jan. 24, 2020 following an extended illness.

Jerry was born on June 23, 1939 in Clay County, the son of David Clark and Gladys (Fullen) Winkler.

He graduated from Van Buren High School with the class of 1957.

Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was medically discharged from the service following complications of a gunshot wound four years later.

As a civilian, Jerry worked for P.R. Mallory. He retired, as a supervisor, after nearly 40 years of service to the company.

When he wasn’t working, Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf and traveling. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, David and Gladys Winkler; his wife, Lynn Winkler; his son, David Clark Winkler Sr.; grandson, Hunter Lee Winkler; great-granddaughter, Faith Marie Hofmann; and five siblings, Clayton Winkler, John Howard Winkler, Floyd Winkler, Lloyd Winkler and Madge Marie Winkler.

He is survived by his son, Jerry Dean Winkler (Venice) of Fort Lauderdale, Fla; a daughter, Anji Taylor (Jim); stepson, David Alspaugh (Heidi) of Crawfordsville; grandchildren, Brandy Winkler, Heather Winkler, Hayley Winkler, David Winkler Jr., Logan Winkler, Markie Hofmann (Zach), Morgan Hofmann, Andrew Alspaugh (Taylor), Tyler Alspaugh, Dani Clark (Aaron) and Shelby Alspaugh; special friend, Peggy Arthur; as well as several great-grandchildren and extended family members.

Private graveside services will be held at Kaelber Cemetery at a later date.
