Alan Gene Stanley

Alan Gene Stanley, 93, of Greencastle, passed away on Monday, Jan. 27, 2020.

Mr. Stanley was born on July 2, 1926 in Rush County to Marion and Raeburn Stanley. He graduated from Pendleton High School in 1944 and enlisted in the military, where he served in the army until 1946.

Following his return from serving in Korea as a surveyor, he attended Purdue University where he earned a degree in civil engineering.

For many decades he owned and operated the successful engineering firm of Alan Stanley and Associates in Greencastle.He also served as Putnam County Surveyor for many years.

Mr. Stanley was active in a variety of social and philanthropic organizations as well as his church, First Christian Church.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 71 years, Donna (McCabe); his daughters, Linda Wall, Brenda (BJ) Rabold and Marla Helton (Stuart Fabe); eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Lynn Stanley; and one sister, Barbara Cooney.

He was preceded in death by his three sons-in-law, Jim Wall, Rich Rabold and Dave Helton.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the local chapter of Rotary Foundation, the Greencastle Summer Music Festival via the Putnam County Community Foundation, or Purdue University.

A celebration of life will be held from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2 at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, 602 E. Washington St., Greencastle. A short service at 2 p.m. will be followed by a reception.
