The Boy Scouts of America was founded 110 years ago, on Feb. 8, 1910. To celebrate this milestone year the Putnam County Museum will host a Putnam County Boy Scout Reunion Open House.

All current and former Scouts and Scout leaders are welcome, including those who were Scouts in other counties.

At one time, there were at least eight different Scout troops in Putnam County, and numerous Cub Scout dens. Almost every town and burg had at least one troop.

The reunion will allow current and former Scouts to share stories of campouts, cookouts, canoeing and camaraderie. Scouting memorabilia, including badges, patches and pictures, will be on display and persons are encouraged to share Scouting stories and experiences.

Snacks and drinks will be furnished thanks to Troop 99.

The open house will be from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Putnam County Museum, 1105 N. Jackson St., Greencastle.

Memorabilia may be brought starting Saturday, Feb. 1 and will be on display Feb. 4-8. For information about displaying, contact the Museum at 653-8419.

“As with any reunion, finding names and addresses is the most difficult process,” Museum Director Lisa Mock said, “so please spread the word to all the past Scouters you know.”

For any other information contact David Boswell at dboswell73@hotmail.com or call 653-6755 and leave a message.

  • They must have been camping in the hot summer time--not too many smiles in this group :) I see many familiar faces.
