Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated two recent property-damage crashes.

• At about 8:20 p.m. on Monday, Jason P. Schuetz, 35, Brazil, was stopped northbound on U.S. 231 at the stoplight at Stardust Road in Cloverdale in a 2014 Ford Mustang. Denny W. Fidler, 23, Greencastle, was also northbound, approaching the intersection in a 2001 Honda Civic.

Fidler told Deputy Daniel Birt he was not paying attention and drove into the rear end of Schuetz’s vehicle.

Birt observed that it appeared Fidler tried to swerve to the right to avoid the collision.

Schuetz told Birt he was stopped at the intersection and the light had just turned green. As he attempted to put his car into first gear, Schuetz was rear-ended.

Fidler hit his forehead on the upper left corner of the windshield but had not notified dispatch of the injury when he called in the wreck. His mother had arrived on the scene before Birt and took him to the emergency room at Putnam County Hospital. Schuetz was not injured.

Both cars were towed. Birt estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 10:20 a.m. on Monday, Michael A. Mikesell, 33, Greencastle, was westbound on County Road 50 South when he lost control of his 2006 Chrysler Town & Country.

The van traveled into a ditch and hit a driveway before becoming airborne and hitting a tree and guardrail head on.

The vehicle became wedged between the guardrail and tree, on its side. Mikesell said he was not injured and needed no medical attention.

Mikesell told Deputy Brian Helmer he was smoking a cigarette and the hot cherry fell between his legs. While he was trying to get it off, he ran off the road.

The vehicle had to be retrieved and towed.

Helmer estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.
