Police renews calls for help in finding Darren Huff

Monday, February 3, 2020

The Greencastle Police Department is making a new request for public help in finding a man missing since before Christmas.

Darren Huff, 44, Greencastle, has not been seen since Dec. 21, 2019.

“We are asking that the public check their property to include storage buildings, ponds and wooded areas,” a department representative said. “Darren was considered homeless and known to sleep in abandoned buildings and storage units.”

Huff left a residence on foot Saturday, Dec. 21 between 11 and 11:30 a.m., possessing only his wallet, leaving behind a cell phone.

He was last seen walking toward South Bloomington Street wearing a quarter zip Colts windbreaker, denim jeans and brown work boots.

Family members reported that Huff suffered a heart attack a few months ago and was prescribed medications which he had not been taking.

Huff was captured on video surveillance on the east side of Greencastle on Dec. 21 at approximately 1:30 p.m. He was walking alone toward the Speedway gas station and Castlebury area before going off video surveillance.

Huff’s bank account as yielded no activity since his disappearance.

He was entered as missing into IDACS/NCIC, and the Clearinghouse National missing person database as an official missing person. In the event there was any law enforcement contact, GPD would be notified.

Putnam County Cert Team, Indiana State Conservation Officers and Indiana Department of Homeland Security specialized K9 units were mobilized conducting searches of abandoned buildings, storage units, water and properties throughout Putnam County.

The Greencastle Police Department has received numerous tips and theories regarding Huff’s disappearance. Officers with GPD are still working to determine facts regarding some of the received information.

The department requests that any citizen with first-hand information or knowledge regarding Huff’s disappearance can contact Officer Darrel Bunten with the Greencastle Police Department by calling the Greencastle Police Department Tip Line at (765) 848-1644 or through Facebook page messenger.

Tips can also be emailed to Officer Darrel Bunten at dbunten@cityofgreencastle.com.
