A Manhattan Road home suffered internal damage Tuesday afternoon when a truck crashed into the front wall.

Fortunately, the house seems to have escaped major structural damage.

Emergency responders were called to 3169 S. CR 200 West (Manhattan Road) around 12:20 p.m. for a report of a vehicle into a house with possible injury and structural collapse.

Crews from Putnam County EMS and the Greencastle Fire Department arrived to find a Chevrolet Silverado into the living area of the house.

The truck had been parked under a carport in front of the house when a juvenile with a learner’s permit attempted to move the vehicle for his mother.

However, as he attempted to back up, he put the truck into drive and went forward into the house.

Fortunately, the truck did no major structural damage to the house, as it crashed through an area that had formerly been an overhead door before the garage was transformed into a living space.

However, the truck destroyed the sliding door as well as damaging items in the room.

“It did pretty extensive damage,” Putnam County sheriff’s Deputy Josh Boller said.

Boller also reported that no one was injured in the crash.

The property is owned by Gary and Surita Grassick.

  • Yes, it changes at the Buzzi intersection. In fact it changes a few more times before it reaches US 40.
