PREP ROUNDUP: Chase Carrington wins regional wrestling title at 120 pounds

MOORESVILLE — Chase Carrington won the 120-pound weight class at the Mooresville Regional on Saturday, and will compete this weekend for a spot in the state finals.

Also advancing to the semistate are Greencastle’s Brach Carrington (second at 170 pounds) and Jacob Fox (fourth at 126 pounds).

Swimming

• Sharks third in free relay — Greencastle placed third in the 200-yard freestyle relay on Saturday at the Avon Sectional to highlight performances by Putnam County athletes.

Members of that relay team were Olivia Headley, Caroline Gooch, Zoe Weltz and Katie White.

Headley also had the highest individual finish with a fifth-place effort in the 50-yard freestyle.

South Putnam had several swimmers who set school records at the sectional.

Sammi Jones bettered her own record in the 200 and shattered the existing 500 freestyle record by six seconds.

Josie Hutcheson also swam to a school record in the 100 breaststroke, along with the medley relay team of Keeli Pastore, Abby Teipen, Caitlyn Phillips and Evvie Timberman.

Greencastle placed sixth among the 10 competing teams, while South Putnam was seventh and North Putnam was ninth.

The boys’ sectional will be at Terre Haute on Feb. 20 and 22.
