100 Years and Counting

Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the League of Women Voters as well as the recent 65th anniversary of the local chapter of the LWV, Mayor Bill Dory signs a proclamation recognizing Feb. 16-22 as League of Women Voters Week in Greencastle. Dory is joined at the table by Greencastle LWV President Leslie Hanson (left) and LWV Centennial Event Coordinator Tosh Everson, as well as (standing from left) LWV member June Javens-Wolfe; LWV member and Ward 3 City Councilor Veronica Pejril; LWV member Rhoda Alexander, District 2 City Councilor Stacie Langdon; LWV members Paula Evans, Harriet Moore, Susan Anthony, Whitney Morrill, Ruth Ralph, Barbara Boese, Rita Schendel and Charity Pankratz, City Clerk-Treasurer Lynda Dunbar; and LWV member Pam Propsom. Following the proclamation, Pejril, Langdon and Dunbar, the city’s three current female elected officials, spoke about their positions and plans for the future. The League of Women Voters was founded on Feb. 14, 1920, while the local chapter was formed in 1954.
