County Jail

Six people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Wednesday

• At 11:08 a.m. Billy Joe Cooper Jr., 21, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for domestic battery and resisting law enforcement.

• At 9:31 a.m. Troy L. Morphew, 46, Cloverdale, was taken into custody on a court order.

• At 4:21 a.m. Allen Lee Braughton, 40, Hot Springs, Ark., was housed at the jail for nonsupport of a dependent child.

Tuesday

• At 2:03 p.m. Austin K. Souders, 18, Greencastle, was lodged at the jail for battery resulting in bodily injury.

• At 1:37 p.m. John B. Inman Jr., 24, Greencastle, was taken into custody for theft.

• At 10:06 a.m. Hunter D. Burchett, 20, Fillmore, was housed at the jail on a Parke County warrant.

City Police

One recent shoplifting arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 7:35 p.m. Tuesday, Ashli Johnston, 33, Bainbridge, was arrested by Alec Pettit.

Charged with theft at Walmart, Johnston was additionally charged with criminal trespass relative to previous indiscretions at an Arkansas store that has her banned from all Walmart stores.

In the Greencastle case, she reported swapped tags on merchandise with tags from clearance products and attempted to go through the U-Scan station.

She allegedly rang up clothing, a tie-dye Unicorn, a Penguin doll, hair care products and Pretty Deadly Perfume at a total of $11.04. The items should have totaled $53.87, police said.

Johnston was lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

In another case., at 6:38 p.m. Tuesday, Sgt. Eric Vaughan stopped Alan Aynes, 21, Cloverdale, on Zinc Mill Road.

Originally pulled over for possible speeding, Aynes was cited for possession of marijuana.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated four recent property-damage crashes.

• At 6:13 p.m. on Wednesday, Kristy J. Krsulic, 17, Roachdale, was southbound on County Road 250 East in a 2011 Chrysler PT Cruiser when she lost control on the snow-covered roadway.

The vehicle spun 180 degrees and left the road backward, traveling 50 feet before making heaving impact with the rear against a Duke Energy pole.

Reserve Deputy Ken Rozelle estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000. The car was towed.

• At 1:41 p.m. on Wednesday, Jon Hanebutt, 40, Newburgh, was southbound on U.S. 231 stopped at a red light at U.S. 40 in a 2019 Nissan Altima. Ryan Dreiman, 41, Cloverdale, was also southbound on U.S. 231, approaching the intersection in a 2002 Ford Escape.

Dreiman told Deputy Tanner Brown that when he tried to stop, the pedal went all the way to the floor, causing him to rear-end Hanebutt’s vehicle.

Brown estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 6:45 p.m. on Monday, Katherine Denny, 24, Bainbridge, was westbound on U.S. 36 in a 2005 Ford Focus when she hit a deer.

Denny told Deputy Daniel Birt she had no insurance coverage and was cited for the infraction.

The car was towed. Birt estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

• At 9 p.m. on Sunday, Brian K. Cooper, 54, Stilesville, was westbound on State Road 240, approaching a corner in a 2015 Chevrolet Impala.

Cooper told Deputy Nate Trissel that the vehicle fishtailed as he approached the corner and he ran off the road.

The vehicle entered the ditch and rolled onto its driver side on the north side of the road.

Cooper had gotten himself out of the vehicle but complained of neck pain. Putnam County EMS transported him to Methodist Hospital for treatment.

Asked what speed he was going at the time, Cooper said he had no idea. Trissel cited him for speed unreasonable under conditions.

The car was towed. Trissel estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to three recent dispatches:

• At 5:31 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to 500 S. Jackson St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 5:32 to find a pull station had been activated. No fire was found. GFD left at 5:40 p.m.

• At 1:36 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD responded to a mutual aid call for a fire at 7303 W. CR 450 North. Units arrived on the scene at 1:48 and assisted the Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Department was extinguishment and overhaul. GFD went back into service at 2:43 a.m.

• At 8:29 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 1050 Avenue C for a reported gas leak. Units arrived at 8:34 and investigated the property, but found nothing. GFD went back into service at 9:06 a.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed three medical assists and had one disregard.
