A veteran of more than 30 years in special education, being a champion for the mental health of students isn’t something new to Nancy Holsapple.

On Thursday, though, it became a more formal distinction for the Roachdale resident and state director of special education, as she was presented with the Champion Award by the Indiana School Mental Health Initiative.

Holsapple received the award during the ISMHI’s 2020 Whole Child Summit.

Prior to her 2018 appointment by Gov. Eric Holcomb as director of special education for the Indiana Department of Education, Holsapple spent 24 years with Old National Trail Special Services in Putnam County, 15 of those as executive director.

The education cooperative provides services to Cloverdale, North Putna, South Putnam, Eminence and Mill Creek schools.

  • Congratulations on this wonderful award. You are so deserving. The children of Indiana are lucky to have you as their advocate.
