James R. McMillan, 88, of Greencastle, passed away at his home on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2020.

He was born in Indianapolis on April 13, 1931, the son of Lossan V. and Nell (Wilson) McMillan.

He married Doris Fletcher on May 28, 1954, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 21, 1999. Together they owned and operated McMillan Carpets for more than 30 years. Indeed, he continued to install flooring into his late 70s.

Jim served his country during the Korean War, joining the Marine Corps in 1952. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps Reserve on Jan. 2, 1960.

He was an avid pilot and owned various planes through the years. His pride and joy was a twin-engine Piper Comanche that he co-owned with Dr. James Johnson. The two of them flew multiple humanitarian missions to the Caribbean islands.

He is survived by two sisters, Joyce Jones of Greencastle and Martha Garcia of Fort Worth, Texas; and nieces and nephews.

The family will schedule an interment in Forest Hill Cemetery with military honors at a later date. There will be no visitation per his wishes.
