The opening of the new clubhouse and event center at Tiger Pointe Country Club, which was slated for this spring, is now projected to take place in late-summer.

“There were some small hiccups in the design approval process which has pushed back opening day, but all systems are go,” said Ken Owen, a spokesman for the golf club. “This building will be a major asset for Greencastle and Putnam County, providing what we’re confident will become a regional destination for weddings and other events, offering high-end amenities in a beautiful setting.”

The nearly 13,000 square-foot building is being erected atop a hill overlooking the golf course. Capable of accommodating more than 200 guests with tables and chairs, patios and covered porches will bring the total event and entertainment space to more than 20,000 square feet.

“Work is progressing on the foundation, drainage and other site work,” noted Chris Johnston of the Tenzer Family Office, which owns and operates Tiger Pointe. “In the next month or so, the structure itself will begin to take shape. We are excited to create this great community asset.”

As construction continues on the clubhouse, operations of the golf course will continue as usual. It is hoped that warmer weather will permit the links to open to golfers in mid-March.

Vince Lazar, general manager of Tiger Pointe and golf coach at DePauw University, notes that the semi-private country club now has 170 members.

“This is a place that brings the community and the campus together in meaningful ways,” he said, “and the investment we’re making in this new building will create opportunities to draw more people from outside of the area to Putnam County, exposing them to the many assets of our community and enhancing the local economy.”

Lee Tenzer purchased the nine-hole golf club, formerly known as Windy Hill Country Club, in April of 2018.

“What I saw then was a community asset that had been around since 1955, but was in desperate need of upgrades and energy,” Tenzer said. “Those two ingredients are now in place. The new building will become the go-to place for weddings and other memorable parties, mark my words. It’s going to be quite beautiful and special.”

Tenzer is a 1964 graduate of DePauw and was a longtime member of the university’s board of trustees. He is also the majority owner of Almost Home and the Tenzer Hub for Entrepreneurship – both located on Greencastle’s courthouse square -- and is the owner of 11 rental properties in the city.

“I have loved Greencastle since I arrived here as a freshman at DePauw, and it gives me great pleasure to be part of taking this great community to higher levels,” he added. “I look forward to welcoming guests at our new clubhouse and event center this summer.”

What is a "semi-private" country club?

  • A semi-private club means they have members who pay dues but also welcome others to play the course or use the amenities.

Members typically can play unlimited golf and may have other benefits/discounts. Non-members will pay fees each time they pay and may be restricted from certain popular times.

  • Does anything in Greencastle ever get built on time?
