GCSC board invites public input on superintendent search

Monday, February 24, 2020

As it searches for the next superintendent to guide Greencastle Community Schools, the Greencastle School Board is seeking input from as many interested parties as possible.

Besides a series of meetings with staff members at individual school buildings, the board will host a public meeting on the subject of the superintendent search on Thursday, March 5.

The 7 p.m. meeting at GCSC Central Office will have just one item on the agenda — public input on the superintendent search.

The idea, Board President Mike White told the Banner Graphic, is to give parents, community members and even students the chance to let the board know what qualities, priorities and qualifications they would like to see in the next GCSC superintendent.

Staff members are also invited to take part in the March 5 conversation, though they will have a separate chance to comment, as two board members at a time plan to visit each GCSC building.

Supt. Jeff Hubble announced his retirement in January. It will take effect on July 1, following the close of the 2019-20 academic year.

During the meeting in which the board accepted Hubble’s retirement, the board also moved to engage with Dr. Michael Adamson of the Indiana School Board Association to conduct the search for the next superintendent.

The job is posted and the ISBA is currently in the midst of taking applications, with a closing date of March 6.

The interview process itself, once it reaches that point, will take place behind closed doors in executive sessions. However, the board hopes to enlist some staff members in the final round of interviews.

The hope is that a choice is made by mid-May.
