County Jail

Eight people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Thursday

• At 12:30 a.m. Datrevian J. Holder, 24, Indianapolis, was housed at the jail for criminal mischief, theft and driving without ever receiving a license.

Wednesday

• At 10:56 p.m. Harley D. E. Graves, 24, Reelsville, was booked in for driving while intoxicated and possession of marijuana.

• At 4:33 p.m. Dylin A. Deem, 20, Spencer, was taken into custody for burglary and theft.

• At 12:14 p.m. Zamira Berdieva, 52, Cincinnati, was lodged at the jail on a Marion County warrant.

• At 10:57 a.m. Tina N. Tiedemann, 29, Cloverdale, was housed at the jail on a petition to revoke probation.

Tuesday

• At 9:29 p.m. Billy J. Shofner, 21, Roachdale, was booked in on a petition to revoke probation.

• At 1:34 p.m. Wayne A. Adams, 46, Indianapolis, was taken into custody for driving without ever receiving a license.

• At 12:33 p.m. Tracey W. Burk, 51, Reelsville, was housed at the jail for failure to appear.

• At 12:02 p.m. Adrianna D. Johnson, 22, Indianapolis, was booked in on a Hendricks County warrant.

City Police

Investigation into a shoplifting incident at Walmart Tuesday evening resulted in a 37-year-old Greencastle man facing theft and five additional charges, City Police officers reported.

Wilson May was arrested at 6:46 p.m. after Capt. Charles Inman stopped his vehicle on County Road 275 East in Greencastle and further investigation resulted in the additional charges.

May was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on charges of theft, possession of marijuana, possession of a legend drug, possession of a syringe, possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia.

Authorities allege that May fled the Walmart store with $698 worth of merchandise.

The cartful of items May reportedly tried to make off with included eye liner, lipstick, mascara, diapers, spray paint, cleaning products, blankets, an air mattress, a battery jump box, personal hygiene items, Nerf guns and a spotlight.

Meanwhile, city officers issued one recent citation.

• At 11:46 p.m. Tuesday, Courtney Riley, 35, Greencastle, was ticketed by Capt. Chris Jones.

Stopped on Avenue D near Percy Julian Drive, Riley was cited for driving with an expired license plate (2019).

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated one recent property-damage crash.

• At 6:55 a.m. on Wednesday, Rachel M. Houghton, 33, Fillmore, was eastbound on U.S. 40 east of County Road 850 East in a 2015 Dodge Durango when a bunch of deer crossed into her path of travel and she hit one of them.

The vehicle was towed.

Deputy Brian Helmer estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to nine recent dispatches:

• At 12:25 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to Phi Gamma Delta for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:28 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 12:34 p.m.

• At 1:19 p.m. on Sunday, GFD was dispatched to 330 Greenwood Ave. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:23 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 1:36 p.m.

• At 12:12 a.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 413 S. Locust St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 12:15 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 12:21 a.m.

• At 9:05 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to Lillienthal House for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 9:08 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 9:13 p.m.

• At 3 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident located at 3482 W. CR 125 South. Units arrived on the scene at 3:05 but were advised that they were not needed. GFD went back into service at 3:10 p.m.

• At 3:42 p.m. on Tuesday, GFD responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of North College Avenue and Franklin Street. Units arrived on the scene at 3:48 and performed fluid cleanup. GFD went back into service at 4:15 p.m.

• At 4:48 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was notified of an illegal burn at 735 E. Washington St. Units arrived at 4:50 to find the homeowner burning leaves and misusing a charcoal grill. The fire was extinguished, and GFD went back into service at 4:59 p.m.

• At 6:48 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was notified of a dumpster fire located at Castlebury Apartments. Units arrived at 6:50 and found a fully involved dumpster fire. The fire was listed as being under control at 6:58. The cause of the fire could not be determined. GFD went back into service at 7:14 p.m.

• At 10:44 p.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 106 S. Spring St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at about the same time and were advised that the alarm system was malfunctioning. The alarm was not reset. GFD left at 10:52 p.m.

Additionally, GFD performed three medical assists and had two disregards during this time.
