Rosanna Goodwin

Tuesday, March 10, 2020

Rosanna Goodwin, 92, of Westville, Ill., took Jesus’ hand and went to Heaven on March 6, 2020 at Mill Pond Health Campus after her battle with Parkinson’s disease and dementia.

She was born on Nov. 1, 1927, the daughter of Reuben and Zelia (Vallet) Mariage.

She was united in marriage to her loving husband, Karl Goodwin, on Jan. 23, 1985 until his passing on March 27, 2010.

Rosanna graduated from Oakwood High School.

She worked at Sears for over 25 years and always had a keen eye for shopping.

She loved the springtime, which meant it was time for mushroom hunting. Rosanna not only played Bunco for years with her friends, but also enjoyed being part of the “Westville Walkers” where she and her friends spent their mornings walking around town enjoying each other’s company.

She spent a lot of time outside tending to her garden and flowers and was especially proud of her elephant ears, which even made the newspaper. She enjoyed many crafts and made beautiful handmade quilts for her grandchildren, and there wasn’t a Christmas that went by that she hadn’t crocheted new slippers for everyone.

Rosanna loved her family immensely and was always there for them, which now provides them with precious memories. Whether it was passing down her French waffle cookie tradition, attending family get-togethers, sitting through numerous school and sporting events for her grandchildren or even babysitting her sweet great-grandbabies, Rosanna was always there.

She was a lover of animals and enjoyed many over the years, especially Mitzi, who she held close to her heart.

Rosanna and Karl enjoyed spending much of their time at Sugar Mill Lake every summer, where the family has many fond memories of cookouts, golf cart rides, parades and fireworks.

Rosanna leaves behind her daughters, Jacquelyn Higgenbotham of Greencastle and Vickie Holecz (Steve Talbert) of Danville, Ill.; her grandchildren, Brian (Melissa) Higgenbotham, Lori Higgenbotham, Jeanifer Olichwier, Terry Higgenbotham, Lance Holecz (Johanna DePratt) and Tori Beth (John) Blanchard; her step-grandchildren, Jeremy (Carley) Potter, Larkin and Emily; her great-grandchildren, James, Brooke (Jamie), Amber, Mackenzie, Emma, Macey Jo and Elizabeth; her great-great-grandchild, Eli; and her brother, Lawrence Mariage.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Raymond Mariage; her sister, Leona Schnelle; her son-in-law, William Higgenbotham; and her great-grandson, Matthew Higgenbotham.

A celebration of Rosanna’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 14 at Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 414 S. State St. Westville, IL 61883, with Pastor John Mincey officiating.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home prior to her service. She will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park, Danville, Ill.

Memorial donations may be given to donor’s choice of charity.
