Service priority for Don’s Garage as business slows
With a sign that reads “Where you’re treated like royalty,” Don’s Garage is committed to doing right by their customers.
However, like many other local businesses impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak, the repair garage on North Jackson Street is feeling the effects of a slowed-down community.
Becky Back, who manages the business side of the shop, told the Banner Graphic Thursday afternoon that the number of projects has dropped off almost completely.
She related that they may now see only four projects on a given day, whereas they were booked with regular appointments prior to measures instated to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
However, Don’s Garage is still remaining open to address the needs of customers and keeping them on the road. They’re also taking steps to keep both sides protected.
“We’re still fully functioning with what we’re doing,” said Back. “We’re trying to be safe ourselves and to keep everyone else safe.”
She said that essentially everything in their lobby and the shop is being wiped down daily with disinfectant. This includes the keys to the vehicles which they will service.
Customer service still remains a top priority for the small business, even in a time when many might be reluctant to get out.
“We now can take anyone all day long,” Back said matter-of-factly. “We’re here to see if anyone needs us.”
Anyone who brings their vehicle to the shop may just drop it off. They can put the keys with their name and phone number in an envelope and put it in a dropbox near the entrance.
Back said that the business was encouraging people not to stay in the lobby if they do not feel comfortable doing so.
She emphasized that the shop will clean surfaces in the vehicles they work on, and that customers do not have to take this step.
“We all need to help each other during this time, and this includes all our businesses,” Back said. “Our main concern, though, is that everyone needs to stay safe and well.”
Don’s Garage is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a closure from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. during the lunch period.
