Confirmed Putnam COVID-19 cases climb to 25

Monday, April 6, 2020

Local officials announced Monday afternoon that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has climbed to 25.

This marks an increase of eight cases in the county since the Sunday afternoon report.

It is also four more than the 21 reported by the Indiana State Department of Health Monday morning.

The ISDH has begun sharing the number of individuals who have been tested on its website. According to the ISDH, the number of tests is provisional and reflects only those reported to ISDH. Numbers should not be characterized as a comprehensive total.

Additional updates include:

• Mental health resources available for county residents. Putnam County Hospital’s team is sharing resources to help the community navigate these challenging times. Visit www.pchosp.org to learn more.

• Wear face coverings in public when performing essential duties. The CDC wants people to wear face coverings in public when it’s tough to maintain social distancing, like grocery shopping and picking up prescriptions. Those who already have an N95 or medical grade mask may still do so but are asked to refrain from purchasing or hoarding medical grade masks that could otherwise go to healthcare professionals.

Instructions on how to make a mask are available from the CDC: www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/diy-cloth-face-coverings....

• Putnam County’s ‘Masked Mommas,’ have made nearly 2,000 masks for county healthcare professionals and essential workers. These dedicated volunteers are working around the clock to fulfill orders. Visit their Facebook page to learn more.

An update of the Masked Mommas will be posted on www.bannergraphic.com in the coming days.

• How can you thank a healthcare professional? Putnam County Hospital is working on a way to do it virtually.

During this unprecedented time, the support and prayers that Putnam County Hospital has received is very much appreciated, PCH said in a statement.

“For the safety of our staff, patients and community we ask that you send any thank you, videos or signs via https://pchosp.org/thankyoupch,” a PCH representative said. “We will send these messages of encouragement out to staff and put them throughout the facility. Thank you to all of those that have reached out to show support for our staff, they are the heart of Putnam County Hospital.

Local officials are also encouraging preventive steps, including:

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

• Don’t touch your eyes, nose or mouth, especially with unwashed hands.

• Avoid close contact with people who are showing symptoms of illness.

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

• Cover your cough or sneezes with a tissue or sneeze into your elbow.

• Throw the tissue in the garbage and make sure to clean your hands afterward.

• Stay home when you are sick.

• We are all in this together.

Putnam County is providing regular updates on COVID-19 to citizens as part of its effort to complement the daily updates from the ISDH. The ISDH updates occur at 10 a.m. and can be accessed via www.coronavirus.in.gov.

  • I understand the need for the privacy for those infected with the virus, but it would be very helpful to know any links between the patients. Were they members of the same family? Were they exposed through their work?

Knowing how they were suspected of being exposed would enable the public to avoid those situations.

If you're practicing social isolation and staying home then you are already avoiding these situations.

RSOTS, social isolation isn't the same as social distancing nor do people own the impenetrable bubble you ordered from Acme...

DQ, I keep reading my comment trying to see where I said they are the same. Can't seem to find it but as usual I'm confused by you.

BTW, Acme isn't delivering at this time as they deemed their business as non-essential. Really put a damper on my purchasing. At least I still have plenty of yarn for my Conspiracy Board. It's coming along nicely. Maybe you can stop by and grade it after the Laypeople are allowed to return to normal.

Confused by me? You're cute! You can't even comprehend your own ideas, let alone any critiques you receive from me about your own mind-numbing misconceptions! And by the way, that's not yarn you're playing with... That's your dental floss.

  • People who hide behind their "Fictional Character" and keyboards need to grow a hobby. Perhaps putting your writing skills to work on a fictional novel instead of sniping at others.

But what if I write books AND have a hobby of hiding behind fictional characters!? Yikes, talk about a brain-twister... For whatever it's worth, I only try to snipe the snipers but I have to admit, I sometimes go too far with it, even at times feeling pitty for those I chide. I can't help it.

...between those who try to one-up others, and the morons who can't spell or construct complete sentences and yet lecture their opposition for the very transgressions they afflict, or the nincompoops who lean too far in any which direction, while the simpletons who post the most unoriginal feedback continue to do so into eternity...well, I sometimes just can't help myself: I really love mingling with the locals, mkay!?

Out of curiosity, what will you do if I continue to hide behind a factional character and or keyboard?

  • Talk about grammar. Forty five plus words In a sentence? And this is much shorter than most of your sentences. No wonder you confuse people DouglasQuaid.
