County extends COVID-19 staffing levels two weeks

Monday, April 6, 2020

Putnam County leaders will extend the current response to the COVID-19 pandemic for two weeks, officials have announced.

This means county offices will continue to work with minimal staffing, with limited public hours whenever possible, as well as having employees work from home whenever possible.

The original order was set to expire on Tuesday, April 7, meaning the new order will run through Tuesday, April 21.

As part of the original plan, however, a number of departments — Assessor’s Office, Plat Office, Auditor’s Office, Recorder’s Office and Assessor’s Office — have had business hours only from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. each of the last two Fridays.

With county offices set to be closed this Friday for Good Friday, these offices will instead be open from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Thursday, April 9.

All five of these offices will return to their previous schedule for Friday, April 17.

County-run emergency departments such as the Sheriff’s Department, EMS, 911 Dispatch and the Putnam County Health Department have not cut hours, as all are vital during the ongoing health emergency.

Court-related offices such as Putnam Circuit Court, Putnam Superior Court, the Magistrate’s Office, Juvenile Probation, Adult Probation, Prosecutor’s Office, Clerk’s Office/Voter Registration and Community Corrections will open on an as-needed basis with minimal staffing.

The Veterans Affairs Office, Surveyor’s Office, Putnam County Highway Department and Building and Planning Office have all adopted individual plans to continue to serve the public.
