Power restored to nearly all Putnam County residents
While storms that rolled through Putnam County Wednesday night caused extensive power outages in the county, the problems were all nearly fixed as of Friday morning.
According to outage information provided by the county’s three major power suppliers, only a single customer in the Fillmore area remained without power as of 8:20 a.m.
This lone customer marks a decrease from 368 Hendricks Power Cooperative customers without power on Wednesday night, then down to nine on Thursday evening.
Parke County REMC members in Putnam county saw the most outages in the county, with 1,303 on Wednesday night and 178 remaining on Thursday evening.
Duke Energy had 829 outages on Wednesday night, down to 94 on Thursday.
Both Parke County and Duke had their Putnam numbers down to zero by Friday morning.
However, Duke reported just how widespread the problem had been and continued to be in some areas of the state in a Thursday evening statement, noting that the Wednesday storm brought down power lines, poles and other critical electrical infrastructure.
As of 4 p.m. Thursday, Duke had restored power to more than 77,000 customers, with 22,000 remaining out of service.
The company expected to have the majority of customers restored by 11:59 p.m. Friday, though many were expected sooner.
Some areas, such as Hamilton County and Vincennes, were hit especially hard. In the Westfield area for example, some customers will remain without power until a number of approximately 40 poles carrying two major power lines can be replaced.
