Scholarships offered by local, state teacher associations

The Putnam County Retired Teachers Association (PCRTA) will award a $500 scholarship for the 2020-21 academic year to a current Indiana college/university sophomore or junior who aspires to become a future educator.

Applicants must be Putnam County high school graduates and enrolled in an undergraduate education degree program. Interested students may access the PCRTA’s website at www.putnamrta.com for information.

Applicants must submit a cover letter along with the following: a completed application, a resume, a one-to-two-page essay on “Why I Chose to Become a Teacher,” two letters of recommendation as described in the application and an official college/university transcript.

The deadline for this application is May 1. Completed applications and all requested supporting information should be emailed to pcretiredteachers@gmail.com.

The Indiana Retired Teachers Foundation (IRTF) Scholarship Committee is also offering a $2,000 scholarship opportunity for the 2020-21 academic year.

Applicants must be current college/university sophomores or juniors and enrolled in an Indiana college/university undergraduate education degree program. They must also be sponsored by a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association (IRTA).

Check the IRTA’s website at www.retiredteachers.org/scholarships to learn more about this scholarship opportunity. The application deadline is April 24.

Applicants may apply for both scholarships if they meet the qualification criteria.
