Tox-Away Day, scheduled for May 9 in Putnam County, has bee postponed

After much consideration and recommendation by the event contractor, West Central Solid Waste District made the announcement Monday.

WCSWD plans to reschedule this event later in the year as safety guidelines allow.

In 2019, WCSWD Tox-Away Day events disposed of 146 tons of hazardous materials.

Each year, the district hosts a one-day event in each of its three member counties — Montgomery, Parke and Putnam.

Last year, WCSWD’s one-day collection events removed 139,000 pounds of tires, 44,490 pounds of appliances, 39,727 pounds of electronics, 168 pounds of medications and sharps and 73,701 pounds of other harmful wastes (such as pesticides, fuels, oil, oil-based paint, fluorescent tubes, cleansers and chemicals) throughout the region.
