LWV questionnaire: Putnam County Coroner

With contested races in the Republican primary for Putnam County Commissioner District 3, three Putnam County Council At-Large seats, Putnam County Auditor and Putnam County Coroner, the Greencastle League of Women Voters recently asked the candidates for these six spots to respond to questions specific to the respective offices.

Each of the three candidates for Putnam County Coroner was asked a question. Their answers are printed below.

The 2020 primary election has been delayed to Tuesday, June 2 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ryan Birkemeier

Education: 2004 South Putnam High School 2014 Ivy Tech Community College- Associates- Criminal Justice

Experience and Qualifications: Board Certified Medicolegal Death Investigator Active Deputy Coroner since Jan 2018

Answer: I am passionate about serving the citizens of Putnam County. I have served as a Deputy Coroner since January 2018. I certified to become a Medicolegal Death Investigator in September of 2018. I have spent my time as a Deputy Coroner learning how to provide thorough and compassionate service to those who need it most, and taking notes on areas we can improve.


Jon Myers

Education: AS Engineering

Community Involvements: Phil the Need

Answer: • Lifelong Putnam county resident. • 26-year member of Greencastle Christian Church. • Work with Phil the Need philanthropic to help people in need of house hold necessities throughout the county. • Professionally I have 28 years’ experience as a Mechanical engineer/Project Manager. • Design, Research and development on new products. • Investigate the effects changes in designs have on products. • Research competitors’ products. • Extensive documentation of changes and findings of research. • Reliability testing, analyzing aerodynamic effects. • Develop presentations for new concepts to upper management. • Collaborate with suppliers on purchased parts design and cost. • Work as a member of a design team to review the function of new designs. • Field train customers on install and operation of new products. • Work closely with customers to resolve issues and promote good communications. • Develop and publish both owner and sales manuals. • Manage shipping and receiving departments.


Andrea Moore

Experience and Qualifications: Indiana MDI Certification and continued learning, several years service with Putnam County Coroner’s Office

Community Involvements: Putnam County 4-H, Girl Scouts of America

Answer: In my experience with the Coroner’s Office, I gained invaluable skills in working death investigations, from report writing to talking to families. I have experience with grant writing and fund management through the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, where I coordinate programming within the jail setting and in partnership with DePauw University.
