PUTNAMVILLE – A veteran Indiana State Police trooper escaped injury Wednesday when his squad car swerved to avoid colliding with a FedEx truck on State Road 59 in Parke County.

Master Trooper Ty Lightle was northbound on State Road 59 about 11:15 a.m. when a FedEx truck, also northbound, turned west in front of the passing trooper's patrol car, Indiana State Police at Putnamville reported.

Lightle was responding to a domestic call in Parke County with his emergency lights activated when the delivery truck driver apparently failed to observe the ISP vehicle passing on the left.

Sgt. Matt Ames said Lightle was taken to an area hospital where he was treated and released.

Trooper Lightle used an evasive driving maneuver to avoid striking the turning FedEx truck, Ames said, and the ISP car left the highway on the west side, striking some small trees and a utility pole.

A crash reconstruction team from the Putnamville Post is investigating the accident.

  • So thankful the Trooper was not injured.
