City Police

Four recent arrests were reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

• At 6:31 p.m. Sunday, Lisa Woodall, 51, Cloverdale, was arrested by Officer Luke Brown at the Walmart store for theft.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Woodall allegedly failed to pay for $123.43 in merchandise at the U-Scan station, reportedly failing to scan items and replacing bar codes on others.

Among the items reportedly taken were Gain laundry products, Krispy Kreme doughnuts, candles, liquid soap pumps, Sargento cheese, egg rolls and Nubu Nut Butter Bites.

• At 8:09 p.m. Saturday, Greg Sanders Jr., 40, Greencastle, was arrested by Sgt. Eric Vaughan.

Taken into custody at an East Seminary Street residence, Sanders was lodged in the Putnam County Jail for disorderly conduct.

• At 9:30 a.m. Friday, Mark Rissler, 33, Brazil, was arrested by Sgt. Ed Wilson on a Clay County warrant.

Taken into custody on the parking lot at First Financial Bank, Risssler was lodged in the Putnam County Jail on a warrant carrying the original charge of escape/violation of home detention order.

• At 8 p.m. Thursday, Clifton Adams, 55, Greencastle, was arrested by Capt. Charles Inman at an Alamo Building apartment on South Vine Street.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Adams was arrested on a Putnam County warrant carrying the original charge of possession of marijuana.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated three recent property-damage crashes

• At 5:27 a.m. on Thursday, Edward C. Scheele, 33, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado when he hit a deer.

The truck was towed. Deputy Tanner Brown estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

• At 7:33 a.m. on Sunday, April 3, Rogel Cuevas Portilla, 20, Crawfordsville, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2009 Honda Fit.

Cuevas Portilla told Deputy Brown he came around a curve and started to hydroplane. He said he tried to keep it straight but ran off the road into the ditch. He said he did not remember what happened afterward.

Tire marks indicated the vehicle went into the ditch then hit the side of the ditcha nd came back onto the roadway, traveling across the road and hitting a guardrail.

The vehicle was towed, Brown estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 1:19 p.m. on Sunday, April 3, Chad T. Epley, 42, Greencastle, was eastbound on State Road 240 in a 2003 Dodge Ram when he hit a deer.

The truck was towed. Deputy Brown estimated damage at $5,000-$10,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to six recent dispatches:

• At 4:53 a.m. on Tuesday, GFD was dispatched to 101 Fairview St. for a police assist with a warrant. Units arrived nearby at 5 p.m. and were on standby at the Casey’s. GFD went back into service at 5:17 p.m.

• At 9:51 a.m. on Wednesday, GFD was dispatched to 1203 E. CR 25 South for a smoke scare. Firefighters arrived at 9:59 and monitored the property, but did not find any source for smoke. GFD went back into service at 10:37 a.m.

• At 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, GFD was dispatched to Yuncker House for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 7:48 and determined the alarm was due to a dirty detector head. The head was cleaned, and the alarm was reset. GFD left at 7:53 p.m.

• At 1:47 p.m. on Friday, GFD was dispatched to Opportunity Housing for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:49 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 1:57 p.m.

• At 3:31 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 109 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 3:34 and determined the alarm was due to cooking. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 3:37 p.m.

• At 6:04 p.m. on Saturday, GFD was dispatched to 505 Moore Ct. for a grass fire. Firefighters arrived at 6:08 and controlled the fire at 6:11. GFD went back into service at 6:27 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed six medical assists and had two disregards.
