Mary Francis New

Mary Francis (Hammond) New, 95, passed away Friday, May 15, 2020 at Mill Pond Health Campus.

Mary was married to the love of her life, Woodson New, in March 1944. They shared 63 years of marriage and spent most of their days farming.

Mary was a member of the Clinton Township Homemaker Club and served as a deaconess at First Baptist Church of Greencastle.

She retired from Putnam County Hospital as an LPN, working in the maternity ward for many years.

Mary loved spending time with her 17 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Woodson New; father John Hammond; mother Ruth (Blue) Hammond; son James New; grandson Mathew New; granddaughter Brandi Callahan; sisters Alpha Boatright, Mildred Curtis, Marilyn Coleman, Helen Overton, Virginia Willsey, Patricia Cox and Nancy Fogle; and brothers Rex Hammond, John Hammond II, Joseph Hammond and Samuel Hammond.

Mary is survived by her children, Noble New (Rhodonna), Ruth Hamilton (Bill), Robert New (Beverly), John New (Jody), Linda Williams (Joe) and Carolyn Stock (Jim New); sisters Betty Warfield (Neil), Peggy Girton (Bob) and Edith Crawley (Galen); and brothers William Hammond (Joan) and Edward Hammond (Cheryl).
