Sensory Path

Thursday, June 4, 2020
Early this spring, Ridpath Primary School was awarded $450 from the Mary Allison Children’s Trust for its Sticker Sensory Path. Board Member Lucy Wieland (center) presents Ridpath Principal Emily Johnson with the check for the project. “This path will be used within the building to support students who need assistance with regulating their emotions and feelings,” Johnson said. “Students are often transiting from one place to another or the hallway is a location that provides the student with a break from the stressors in the classroom.” A sensory path, that has clearly defined expectations, whether it is a bear claw, walking on tiptoes, doing a plank or push-up, will allow the students the opportunity to try something using their body to help regulate their emotions. This will provide each student with autonomy to decide what his or her body needs and act accordingly. “This is an excellent program for students and the board looks forward to stopping by the school to see the Sensory Path in action,” Board President Jim Jackson (right) said. Others in attendance for the presentation include (from left) Treasurer Ginger Scott, board members Carol Emery and Anthony Wireman and board member Jeff Kiger.
