Mackey to face off with Baird for congressional seat
Thursday, June 4, 2020
On Tuesday, Joe Mackey was successful where he came up short two years ago.
With 89 percent of precincts reporting, Mackey (D-Lafayette) is the presumptive winner of the Democratic nomination in U.S. House District 4.
Mackey garnered 17,222 votes (54 percent) across the district, well outpacing Veronikka Ziol (9,088 votes), Benjamin Frederick (4,308) and Howard Pollchick (1,283).
After outperforming his third-place finish in 2018, Mackey now faces an uphill battle in unseating Congressman Jim Baird (R-Greencastle), who two years ago won 64 percent of the vote against Democrat nominee Tobi Beck.
Baird was unopposed in Tuesday’s primary.
