Two new pieces of equipment — a rescue truck purchased from the Greencastle Fire Department and a pumper purchased from the Roachdale Fire Department — are now in service for the Reelsville-Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department. Both will be on display as the department hosts its monthly breakfast from 7-11 a.m. this Satuday, which will coincide with a show from the Putnam County Antique Tractor and Machinery Club as well as a lunch from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.

REELSVILLE — The Reelsville-Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department has been busy over the past two months updating its fleet of fire trucks.

On March 13, the township trustee purchased a 1993 Marion rescue truck from the Greencastle Fire Department. This truck has been turned into a heavy rescue truck for the department and carries all types of equipment that is used on accident and fire scenes.

On April 29, the trustee purchased a 2006 Ferrara pumper from the Roachdale Volunteer Fire Department. This truck carries up to six personnel and was a tremendous upgrade over the fire engine that the department had in service.

Both trucks are now in service and serving the citizens of Washington Township.

“Our department is very blessed for the opportunities that other Putnam County departments gave us in upgrading our fleet and giving us the abilities to expand our service capabilities for responses,” a department spokesman said.

Anyone who would like to see the new trucks is encouraged to attend the department’s monthly breakfast on Saturday, June 13 from 7-11 a.m.

The department is also hosting the Putnam County Antique Tractor and Machinery Club from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. The Blood Bus will also be on site from 8:30-11:30 a.m. for those wishing to donate blood.
