Maners selected as new Cloverdale clerk-treasurer
CLOVERDALE -- A month after Cheryl Galloway resigned her post embattled in controversy around the town’s budget, Cloverdale now has a new clerk-treasurer.
The county Republican Party recently convened a caucus to select Kelly Maners to fill the position. She was notified of her appointment on Wednesday, the deadline for when the caucus had to meet and fill the vacancy.
Maners, 43, will not have to go far to transition into her new role. She has served as Cloverdale’s utilities clerk for approximately the past three years, and knows what she wants to see as clerk-treasurer.
“I’m looking forward to being a servant of the town,” Maners told the Banner Graphic Thursday afternoon. “I would like more of a connection between the town government and the community.
“I want to cut down some of the barriers, and I want to see more involvement in the town,” she added.
Maners believed that Cloverdale has seen positive change recently, especially the reconstruction of the storefront facades on Main Street. She added that she thought the town was being cleaned up physically, and that there is a better sense of unity.
Maners provided that her main principles are openness, integrity and transparency, and would bring that in her duties and relationship with the town’s council.
“I am a steward of (the town’s) money, and I will look to bring consistency and fairness,” Maners said.
She related that she did not know when she would officially take on her new capacities as clerk-treasurer.
