County Jail

Eight people were booked in the Putnam County Jail recently.

Monday

• At 2:24 a.m. Jason P. Jackson, 44, Clinton, was lodged at the jail for driving with a BAC of .08 or more.

Sunday

• At 11:11 p.m. Christina D. Gibbs, 35, Cloverdale, was taken into custody for criminal recklessness-shooting a firearm into an inhabited building, intimidation, pointing a firearm, obstruction of justice, possession of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of paraphernalia with a prior conviction and criminal mischief.

• At 11:09 p.m. Samuel A. Whitaker, 18, Roachdale, was housed at the jail for criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and reckless driving.

• At 8:08 a.m. Josiah M. Watson, 21, Cloverdale, was booked in for leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a BAC of .15 or more.

Saturday

• At 6:19 a.m. Andrea L. Buis, 56, Beech Grove, was lodged at the jail for driving while intoxicated.

• At 12:19 a.m. Krystal L. McFadden-Smith, 33, Fillmore, was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine.

Friday

• At 8:38 p.m. Edward N. Willis, 49, Greencastle, was housed at the jail for dealing in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and dealing in marijuana.

• At 8:33 p.m. Sarah N. Scales, 37, Greencastle, was booked in for dealing in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and trafficking with an inmate.

Sheriff’s Department

Putnam County sheriff’s deputies investigated three recent property-damage crashes.

• At 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, Sarah N. Miller, 30, Indianapolis, was eastbound on U.S. 36 in the County Road 500 West area in a 2018 Chevrolet Cruze when she hit a deer.

Deputy Nathan Trissel estimated damage at $1,000-$2,500.

• At 5:52 p.m. on Saturday, Kelly A. Wells, 56, Greencastle, was southbound on U.S. 231 at Tall Oaks Lane in a 2008 Chevrolet Impala. Ashley Peters, 22, Greencastle, was also southbound in a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox.

Wells told Reserve Deputy Josh Clark she was stopped at her driveway with her signal on when she was rear-ended by Peters.

Peters told Clark her daughter started crying and she turned around to get her pacifier and rear-ended Wells’ vehicle.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage.

Both drivers signed statements of release at the scene.

Peters was charged with misdemeanor driving with a suspended license with a prior conviction.

Wells was cited for driving without proof of financial responsibility and driving with expired plates.

Clark, who was assisted at the scene by deputies Trissel and Robert Soilleux, estimated damage at $10,000-$25,000.

• At 5:11 p.m. on Monday, June 8, Olivia L. Maule, 19, Vulcan, Mich., was stopped in traffic on U.S. 231 at U.S. 40 in a 2018 Jeep. Matthew D. Strohmeyer, 30, Bloomington, was stopped in front of Maule in a 2015 Ford F-150.

Maule told Deputy Soilleux she looked down as she was stopped and when she looked back up, she had rolled into the back of Strohmeyer’s truck.

Soilleux estimated damage at $2,500-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to three recent dispatches:

• At 9:08 p.m. on Friday, GFD was notified of black smoke coming from 5 E. Liberty St. Firefighters arrived at the residence at 9:11 and found a brush fire. The homeowner extinguished the fire. GFD went back into service at 9:30 p.m.

• At 9 a.m. on Monday, GFD responded to two people trapped in an elevator inside the new DePauw University dorm at the corner of Olive and Locust streets. Units arrived at 9:04 and freed the individuals from the elevator. GFD went back into service at 9:16 a.m.

• At 1:01 p.m. on Monday, GFD was dispatched to 109 W. Hanna St. for a fire alarm. Firefighters arrived at 1:05 but a cause for the alarm could not be determined. The alarm was then reset. GFD left at 1:14 p.m.

Additionally, GFD recently performed four medical assists and had three disregards.
