The Putnam County Fraternal Order of Police is beginning its annual fundraising drive, with calls to solicit donations.

Organizers would like Putnam County residents to know that no in-person solicitation will take place without a prior telephone call.

All solicitors will show ID upon request and will be in clearly-marked FOP shirts.

Money collected will go to a number of FOP-supported causes, most notably the Shop-with-a-Cop program, which pairs students with police officers for back-to-school shopping. The FOP also buys Christmas presents for children.

Other supported programs include a continuing education program and officer assistance for law enforcement related training and equipment.

Anyone not contacted who would like to support the Putnam County FOP may mail a contribution to FOP, PO Box 934, Greencastle, IN 46135 or drop off at the Greencastle Police Department, 600 N. Jackson St., Greencastle, during regular business hours.
