ROACHDALE -- After leaving open whether his contract would be renewed during its regular June meeting, the North Putnam School Board retained Athletic Director Roger Busch in a short special meeting Tuesday evening.

With Busch present at the meeting, the board approved a revised contract through which the athletic director is stipulated as an at-will employee. This means that he can be dismissed for any reason.

Corporation Attorney Daniel Taylor outlined that Busch’s position was a supervisory one, and that it is a non-certified one. He also specified that while he can be fired without cause, Busch can also individually rescind the contract.

In the only query provided, Franklin Township Representative Amber Greene asked whether a work improvement plan would be stipulated in the agreement. Taylor replied that this was not needed, as any improvements would be addressed between Busch and administrators.

Overall, Taylor said the new contract was effectively the same as Busch’s old one, with him as the athletic director being a salaried position.

The board ultimately approved Busch’s contract, which is a limited term one.

The motion was not unanimous, as Greene and Board Vice President Dustin Osborn cast the dissenting votes. Osborn motioned during the regular meeting not to renew the contract, while Greene seconded it. However, it died for a lack of a majority.

The revised contract was made to go into effect on July 1.
