Teen drowns at Heritage Lake

HERITAGE LAKE -- Tragedy marred the Independence Day holiday Saturday when a teen drowned at Heritage Lake.

The 15-year-old male had been swimming off the family’s dock and was found in the water under the dock.

Officers were called to the lake at 4:10 p.m., with Putnam County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Brian Helmer, Reserve Deputy Ken Rozelle and Roachdale Town Marshal Adrian Lepine all on the scene within minutes.

Putnam County EMS and the Floyd Township Fire Department also responded quickly.

The teen was unresponsive, having possibly suffered a seizure, according to an officer at the scene.

CPR had been going for five minutes when the first officers arrived. Responders continued CPR for another 25 minutes, but could not revive him.

The victim’s name has not been released.

Additional personnel on the scene included Indiana Conservation Officer Chris Springstun, Bainbridge Police Officer Adam Logan, the Putnam County Coroner’s Office and Greencastle Fire Department Chaplain Donnie Watson.
