Fireworks accident results in lost fingers

BAINBRIDGE -- A 21-year-old man permanently injured his hand in a Fourth of July fireworks accident.

Reported as a partial amputation of the hand, the call for Putnam County EMS and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department went out at 9:29 p.m. Saturday.

They arrived to find that the man had lost fingers in the explosion.

The man was transported to an Indianapolis hospital by StatFlight helicopter.

The incident is being investigated by Deputy Jeffery Freeman and Sgt. Kyle Gibbons of PCSD.

The victim had not been identified as of Sunday afternoon.

  • Evidently the saturation of media with warning after warning on the dangers of fireworks isn’t working. Perhaps a mandatory safety instruction before purchase of explosive devices is in order.

  • @techphcy--everyone makes mistakes. Some are worse than others but, no one is perfect. Besides, you do not know the situation of the person who was affected.
